2018 Gifts That Give Back

Every year I make it a point that at least one of the gifts I give each person has a greater cause and gives back in some manner. I want to make sure that each present I give is not solely purchased just to give back to another cause but also is thought out as something that the gift recipient would appreciate and use. This year, in honor of Giving Tuesday and the 2018 Holidays, I wanted to compile a list of some of my favorite “gifts that give back” and share it with you! Stay tuned, as the list will grow throughout the season as I discover more:

For the adventurer:

Adventurist Backpack

This backpack is perfect for a hike, a day at the beach, or even just a long adventure to the Farmer’s Market. And, for every backpack sold, Adventurist Backpack Co. provides 25 meals to families in need across the US.

Campfire Stories: Tales From America’s National Parks

We can’t always be outside as often as we want to, whether it be due to work or weather, so this book is the perfect escape for the outdoors lover in your life. The stories range from originally being told by aboriginal tribes to modern-day authors and each purchase made through this website helps fund a project in the national parks.

For the kiddos:

Cuddle and Kind Handknit Dolls

These dolls are beautifully crafted in Peru and would be a timeless addition to any kids collection. The founders were inspired to nurture children all over the world and thus every doll purchased gives 10 meals to children in need.

The Doll Kind Good Deed Fairies

These are absolutely precious and one of the gifts I’ve chosen to put under my tree this holiday season. This company, The Doll Kind, has two giving back initiatives. The first of these is their one-for-one initiative where for each doll sold a doll is donated to a child less fortunate. The second initiative is that with their newest release, the Good Deed Fairies, a percentage of each sale will be donated to anti-bullying organizations. Each doll and fairy also comes with little tokens of gratitude, created so that the child who becomes the owner of the doll can be empowered to be a better change in the world, sharing love, gratitude and kindness.

Sudara Future World Changer Shirt

The world needs children who dream big and this shirt says it all! Add it to your shopping list for those aspiring kiddos in your life this holiday season. Every purchase invests in job-creation and skills-training programs for women in India who are building a new life for themselves and their children.

For the fur babies:

WO Bone 4 Pack

The dogs in your life will love these BPA-free colorful bones to chew on and with each Bone 4 pack you purchase, WO provides 8 meals for orphaned children in Ethiopia. Can’t beat that!

Found My Animal Leashes

These leashes are seriously adorable and the foundation, Found My Animal, promotes animal adoption in a very direct way: let your pet wear your values. With products ranging from cat and dog leashes and collars to pet beds and bandanas, they encourage rescuing animals over purchasing and donate to many animal rescue and welfare organizations.

Recycled Tapestry Pet Bandanas

Not only are these absolutely adorable and purrrfect for your furry friends, the proceeds from these Recycled Tapestry Pet Bandanas go to an incredible animal rescue organization called Four Legged Freedom Rescue which is located in Maine but helps animals all over the country find their forever homes.

For the self-care lover:

Starling Project Candle

This candle is created under the founder, Sterling McDavid’s concept of Light for Light; with a percentage of the profits supporting solar energy for those in need. They’re also American made and hand poured in Brooklyn, NY and their scents are derived from ethically sourced essential oils! With a purchase from Starling Project Candles, you are doing good in more ways than one.

Be Love Buzz Body Balm

These natural and high-quality products are crafted by men and women who are returning from incarceration. Through providing jobs for these people, this company, Sweet Beginnings, is helping them to develop a stable work history, learn marketable skills, and gain confidence. Through purchasing products from Sweet Beginnings, you are supporting this initiative.

For the fashionista:

Toms Rose Cloud Pom Pom Ivy Slippers

Toms has been such a huge leader in the one-for-one initiative over the past few years, expanding into eyewear (giving sight) and coffee (giving water). These slippers are adorable and cozy, and by purchasing a pair you’d also be giving a pair of shoes to someone in need.

Giving Keys Strand Bracelets

I’m a huge fan of the Giving Keys and these new strand bracelets would make the perfect stocking stuffer this time of year. Giving a word to a loved one to wear is not only a meaningful present to receive, but this company also provides stable job opportunities for individuals transitioning out of homelessness.

Conscious Living Socks

Another great stocking stuffer are these fair-trade certified Conscious Living Socks. For every purchase a donation goes directly to a non-profit. They support causes such as animal rescue, breast cancer prevention, conservation of rainforests, disaster relief, child education, ending poverty, fighting hunger, fighting malaria, planting trees, protecting oceans, protecting sharks, providing water and treating HIV.

For the activist:

Kindness Matters Sweatshirt

By purchasing one of these shirts you are helping this non-profit, Buddy Project, in the prevention of suicides. By spreading the message that the smallest acts can make the biggest difference in someone’s life, Buddy Project is supporting people living with mental illness, addiction, and suicidal thoughts. Since April 8th, 2013, Buddy Project has been pairing teens and young adults with a buddy.

For the home:

Jumbo Lake and Peach Pink Intore Bowl

The prettiest fruit bowl that’s handwoven in Rwanda. By purchasing these artisan-crafted pieces you create the opportunities for these women to thrive.

Asha Handicrafts Marble and Wood Coasters
Simple and stunning Marble and Wood Coasters from Global Goods Partners. These would match basically any home decor and are crafted in India (check out their matching serving platter tray and salad servers!)

For the tech-savvy:

LstnSound Speaker

Not only are these speakers a functional and cool gift but some of the proceeds from every purchase help give hearing aids to people in need through Starkey Hearing Foundation. They do good and look great – what more could you ask for!

Have you come across any more gifts that give back this year that you’re loving? Let me know in the comments so I can add them to the list!
